the articleInfluenced by The Clash and REM and looking like Dirty Sanchez (I think also from Wales, or is it Scotland?), I was expecting them to be more underground than they sound. Track 2 on their demo, not sure if it is the later of the 2 recordings is an instant favourite. Just a better vibe/ sound. They sound like a better band that you would walk in a pub seeing playing, and that IS good. If you didn’t know of them after you have got your beer I think your foot would be tapping along and as a musician that is better than someone trying to talk over you!The Defined2 bad things regarding The Defined. One is the production is not the best. The bass could be enhanced so it could be heard on computer speakers and the other thing you could have more tracks!!!What we have heard we are loving. The 1 track CD packaged excellently is 'In Your Face'. Mixed with The Prodigy, Fatboy Slim and maybe even the Chemical Brothers a rocking track. Listen on their MySpace site and rate them. We are interested to see if other people agree with this one. If you have rubbish computer speakers, rig it to your stereo to let the bass kick in. Very simple but effective. If Record Scout launch their own label then The Defined will be more than welcome. Send your new material ASAP. THE HENRY ROADIs it the Beatles on acid? Just maybe, but so nice to hear something a bit different. This band are pulling something off from the norm of today’s bit pop Cold Play rock. If you know of the Vaselines then this is the closest I could be to matching a band. If you don’t know the Vaselines, then they are the band Nirvana covered quite a lot. Tempo changes, narration, funky Radio Head graphics and band members with funny names make up The Henry Road.These guys are definitely worth a listen to if you want to hear something a bit different. And for once my Windows Media Player psychedelic graphics actually go with the music. Reviewed: Daniel The Lazarus PlotSome CDs before they even hit the CD Player bring a sort of excitement and The Lazarus Plot is one of those. It shows the importance of packaging that is so often overlooked by hundreds of bands. Anyway, the production and song writing certainly does not let the side down. Musically polished to near perfection just waiting to be played on thousands of stereos throughout the country and I am sure as long as these guys keep at it, they will be.The Lucky StrikesSelf compared to Led Zeppelin and Queen is making a seriously ‘big’ expectation to live up to, and these guys are not doing a too bad job. The music and production is halfway there but when you are talking about some of the greatest bands in the world ever, there is a long way to go still. Saying that, halfway to Led Zeppelin is a lot further than many successful of today’s bands! This CD oozes rocking sounds that scream out for a live performance, so I suggest you find out when PM are next playing and paying them a visit.The Sam i amFemale fronted Southend’s rock scene is kept alive by bands like ‘The Sam I Am’. Nicely produced and tight in their recording this band produce the vibe that says, come and see us live. It’s what we are about.THE STORYThese guys have a nice tone to them. Early days Counting Crows maybe. If you don’t know what Counting Crows sound like, the a light rock music, harmonised vocals, easy listening vibe.Also, first track introduction rif sounds like a cover but can’t quite put my finder on it. The TransmissionFormed in the 90s The Transmission have certainly been around longer than most and their eighties synth pop shines through.The vocals are nice and clean and the production is crisp and clear. Rock guitar solos over a pretty nice, relaxed vibe make The Transmission’s music non-offensive audio background listening. Not sure if the drums on the demo are live or synth, but they certainly sound real, so if it is a Cubase production, well done to you! Reviewed: Daniel TheseguysTheseguys – must say. We like the name! So we can say Theseguys rock, or Theseguys suck, or whatever!.This is a very raw sounding demo CD but we can listen to talent without thousands of pounds of production when we here it. The word I came up with was ‘quirky rock’. What the hell does that mean? It means tempo changes. Style changes. Breaks in music. Clashing chords and guitar. In fact, I think I will © Quirky Rock music as a new genre and Theseguys will sit at the top of the tree.
