Goldrush - Ozona. Truck Records
Not as 'in your face' as Blur, not as rocking as Foo Fighers but
more chilled than both and very melodic, Goldrush is definitely
worth tuning in to. |

Graham Coxon: Freaking Out
Far be it from me to condone the decidedly adolescent behaviour of a
30 something millionaire 'skater' but Freaking Out is truly the
greatest Camden indie rock pub beer fart tune of the year thus far.
Wiping the floor with such young pretenders as the Libertines, La
Coxon does his usual "I hate the world and no one understands" routine
much like he has done on his previous solo records. Only difference
here is that this time he's managed to remember to write a tune. Ok so
it's probably a Buzzcocks tune but a sterling one nevertheless.
Effortlessly great pop from the King of Camden. |

Gutta - Autonomy E.P.
With the exception of a few, UK Hip Hop is often slated for its
apparent lack of authenticity. Gutta's E.P. though is a brilliant slab
of suburban Essex angst. It's angry, cheap and nasty: check Gutta's
surly stare on the front cover. Looks like he and his crew have had a
hard day loitering outside McDonalds hurling abuse at all and sundry.
Autonomy E.P. is a self-produced affair, "Stoppin" kicking off
proceedings in fine style with its looped horn sample and "Battlin
Aint Dead" marrying a Dre - lite piano motif with a thug's call to
arms. Shit, anyone who sings "when I go to confession/all the nuns
hide" must be one BAD motherfucker. Give props here:

The Grove
Alas, some bands are born out of time. If The Grove were around in the
heady days of Brit-pop I'm sure we would see them stomping around on
TOTP, skinny rib t-shirts and Adidas sneakers on display. They
describe their music as "mod rock indie funk!". It all sounds
competent enough and there is an incongruously beautiful piano break
over the opening track but it's nothing new. Then again I'm sure The
Grove aren't interested in innovation and seem to be having jolly good
fun wallowing in mediocrity. If it ain't broke don’t fix it and all
that…

Greek Band Orpheus Entertainment
Not really being up on traditional Greek songs that involve a belly dancer I can not write a review based on experience, but I will let you know what I hear. Basically if you want some soothing sounds played at a function then this will be a good idea. Harmonised guitars, echo vocals and if you close your eyes and imagine the sea n the background you can let the music take you off to a beach bar in Greece.
