Duluth - The Aesthetics of Drowning
With band members' names such as Kristian Fjellstad and Kristoffer "Srope"
Edvardsson, Duluth sound more like a bunch of ski instructors instead
of the AOR merchants their songs suggest they are. With the exception
of ill-advised cod-funk workout, Amphetamine For The TV, most of the
music is in debt to U.S. middle American FM rock. Indeed, Fjellstad
often comes over like Michael McDonald fronting Grand Funk Railroad by
way of Counting Crows. If you were sporting mesh caps before they
became 'cool' and you love plaid, then this is essential listening for
armchair truck drivers world wide. For more on the guys:

Deep Fix
Smell that Patchouli oil! Sup the Real Ale! This is MEN'S rock played
by men with effeminate hair. As you mighta guessed by the name, Deep
Six do exactly what is says on the tin: ballsy, 'eavy, sixties/early
seventies rock music. Think Keef and Ronnie and the usual influences.
Respect to Deep Fix for blatantly stealing the piano melody from "Rock
the Casbah" on "Where Is Home", writing a tune as gosh darn sweet as
"Sometimes" and to Jay West for continuing to get his legs into those
painfully tight, white Levis he is always seen in. Top fucking chaps.

Djevara: Playing with Fire / Snapshot / Seeks Asylum
By the sounds of it Djevara certainly eat their Wheaties for
breakfast. Bursting with angst and vigour, Djevara conjure a sound
that brings to mind Biohazard or Rage Against The Machine. Granted,
these chaps aren’t quite De La Rocha or Morello, (after all who is?),
but they manage to hold their own with Zeppelin style sizzling guitar
licks, thumping base lines, pounding drums and rebellious vocals as
they provide the soundtrack to your most awesome party. Will the
industry door open for Djevara? At this rate they won’t require the
key, indeed, they will endeavour to break in. |

Dave Easter
When you listen to a solo artist you can tell the ones who can perform usually with in a few seconds, and Dave was one of those you can recognise as a true performer. Lyricially you can compare to Ben Folds but the sound lis nothing like this. Dave has a really good voice and you can hear his vocal training coming though. Quite a catch first tune also. Look forwarding to hearing more material in the future.
Something else interesting for you is putting in Dave's CD confused my ITunes software with Gisli (who ever they are).
Deceiver
When Heavy Metal starts slow and melodic and you are waiting in anticipation for the moment it ‘kicks in’ without knowing what to expect is always fun. Musically they have the rocking qualities of Iron Maiden and the guitar solos as expected. Unfortunately I think the vocals are not really up there with the all time greats, but visually these guys certainly fit the picture.
