Critics act against Sony BMG merger
Opponents of the Sony/BMG merger are accusing European regulators of delaying tactics in releasing formal approval of the deal.
Apple stood beside the independent labels in complaining about the merger, concerned that it would give these labels too much sway in the emerging digital music industry.
Impala, a trade association that represents 2,000 of Europe's indie labels says it wants to challenge the merger, which Sony and BMG are hurrying to implement. The Financial Times reports says Impala cannot begin any legal action to oppose the merger in the absence of a "detailed verdict" from the regulators.
Impala says this is "blatant disregard" of procedure and a violation of rights.
